How are you hydrating?

Do you suffer or experience things like headaches, sugar-craving, lack of energy or mood swings, leg cramps? These could all be related to how well you’re hydrating!

The importance of drinking plenty of water for health is no secret. We are all familiar with the common advice of drinking your body weight daily in water. However, we need to be considering a bit more when it comes to hydrating and to ensure we don’t risk overhydration.

Hydration plays a key role in the functions of kidneys, liver, and even skin! Staying hydrated ensures that the body can carry out critical functions like digestion, delivering oxygen throughout the body, lubricating joints, and removing waste from the body.

Unfortunately, with our lifestyle and standard diets, we are not getting the proper minerals to keep the body running and hydrated. Even when we think we are doing all the right things like eating organic….drinking our body weight in water, we’re still not getting all the vitamins and minerals we need.

Decades ago, our food and water sources were rich in nutrition and minerals. With modern farming, pesticides, and herbicides, the mineral content of food has dropped significantly. Mineral supplements can help fill in the gaps.

After moving to Colorado, I felt as though I would never feel hydrated. I started playing with different options. Below are a few of my favorite ways to hydrate. I like to keep things simple with no fillers, extra sugar, or things I don’t need.

Warm water & Lemon

This ancient Ayurvedic practice of starting your day with warm water, salt, and lemon. This practice helps to clear the digestive tract of toxins that have built up over night and helps rehydrate the body. Sipping on this traditional drink is a great way to prepare your body and your mind for the day ahead!

Trace Mineral Drops

Easy way to ensure you’re getting important minerals and trace minerals without any added preservatives, flavors, or sweeteners.  Add to your Ayurvedic warm lemon water or just add drops to your first water bottle of the day.

LMNT

One of my favorite afternoon treats, especially on hot yoga days. This electrolyte packet has a balanced amount of sodium, magnesium, and potassium.

Structured Water

This is a newer phrase for me but very simple to do, just by adding fruits, veggies, herbs to your water! This restructures the water and makes it more available to your cells! And tastes pretty good too!

Add one or two of these changes into your wellness journey!
